Getting started

GST settings: GSTIN, SAC codes and invoice numbers

With a GSTIN in Settings → Business details, every invoice is a Tax Invoice with the details CGST Rule 46 asks for. See the GST invoice format guide for the full list.

Default SAC code and rate

Set a default SAC code (for example 998222 for accounting services) and GST rate in Settings. New invoice lines start with them, and you can change both on any line.

Suggested items

Set your type of business in Settings (CA and tax, software, design, marketing, consulting, legal, architecture, training or events). While you type a line description, common items for that kind of business are suggested with their usual SAC code and GST rate, together with items you've invoiced before. These are common choices: confirm the SAC codes for your services with your CA.

CGST and SGST, or IGST

The place of supply is your client's state, taken from their GSTIN or the state you chose for them. Same state as you: CGST and SGST. Another state: IGST. The invoice form shows which one applies before you send.

Invoice numbers

Numbers look like INV/26-27/1: your prefix, the financial year, and a running number that restarts every 1 April. They stay within GST's 16-character limit. Change the prefix in Settings.

Not registered for GST?

Leave GSTIN empty. Invoices are plain invoices without GST, and you can add a GSTIN later.
